Juicing for Healthy Skin From Within

Juicing for Healthy Skin From Within

Whether you want to kick start a new regime for general wellbeing, rid yourself of a negative habit, or you suffer from a skin disorder such as acne, eczema or psoriasis a juice detox retreat is one of the quickest and most effective ways to make these positive changes and say hello to a clear complexion.

Your skin is your largest eliminatory organ and Naturopaths often refer to it as ‘the third kidney’. With that in mind, your skin’s appearance usually reflects on the surface a little of what’s going on inside your body. You can feed your skin by consuming skin nourishing ingredients, rather than wasting money on expensive commercial beauty products which frequently contain a plethora of chemicals, which place an even bigger burden on the liver’s already heavy workload.

Juicing for healthy skin from within gives you the right balance of vital nutrients for the skin daily, you’ll help it to stay clear and supple and as a side effect, you’ll likely gain more energy, notice an improved mood and feel years younger and lighter!

The team here at Platinum Healing Retreats have pulled together some potent skin nourishing foods and recipes that will help you with skin health and your self-healing in general.

B Vitamins

A diet lacking in B vitamins can cause dry or scaly skin, so a daily supply is essential for smooth, healthy skin.  The best sources are whole-grain cereals, brown rice, nuts, fruits and leafy green vegetables (organic where possible).

Vitamin C

Foods rich in Vitamin C act as powerful anti-oxidants that help fight against free-radial damage that results in fine lines and wrinkles.  Vitamin C stimulates collagen production which helps to prevent sagging and thinning.  As well as being an excellent immune booster, it helps with inflammatory conditions such as eczema and acne. Good sources include lemons, peppers, oranges, mangoes, apricots, kiwis, papaya, strawberries, oranges, blueberries and carrots.

Vitamin E

Foods rich in Vitamin E including avocado, hazelnuts, almonds, pine nuts and berries should also be part of your daily regime to help moisturise and soften the skin.

Zinc

Zinc-containing whole foods such as pumpkin seeds, brazil nuts, pecans, wheatgerm, oats, lentils and beans (legumes) all help to repair damaged skin. Zinc is also known to regulate the activity of your skin’s oil glands and plays a role in  hormone balance.  Acne is usually triggered by two main factors, hormonal imbalances and toxic waste build up in the blood and lymph, so a detox will also help to remove this buildup and rebalance these and other systems.

Omega 3

Foods rich in omega-3 essential fatty acids are vital for skin health and can be found in foods such as salmon, mackerel, tuna, sardines and anchovies as well as linseeds, walnuts and chia seeds. Omega 3 EFA’s are naturally anti-inflammatory so are one of the key nutrients involved in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as acne, psoriasis, skin rashes and eczema. Udo’s Choice Oil has a good source of all omega oils and can be taken in oil form as well as in capsule form.

Super Greens

Pukka Clean Greens Powder is an organic daily blend of 11 super-rich green foods including Nettle, Kale Sprouts and Wheat Grass Juice that is highly detoxifying.  Add to your juices and smoothies for a powerful boost!

Water

Drink plenty of good quality water (filtered ideally) to keep your skin properly hydrated. Aim for at least 1.5 litres per day, or 2L or more if you exercise.
